Katie’s Story
Overcoming a Difficult Past

“Katie” comes from a single-parent family. Her mom lived in another state and was constantly moving, which prevented Katie from making friends or completing a year of school. Katie was responsible for caring for her younger siblings, so that when her mother would leave, she changed their diapers and tended to their needs. Her mother was often gone for extended periods, leaving Katie and her siblings with no food or money. The homes where they lived were unfurnished and not suitable for children.
Child Protective Services eventually became involved and removed Katie and her brothers and sisters from her mother’s care. (read more)

The Lee and Beulah Moor Children’s Home supports children and families who are experiencing difficulty in their lives—for whatever reason—by providing a nurturing, positive environment and teaching self-respect, respect for others, and the importance of taking responsibility for one’s own decisions and actions.
